How to take a sale on the POS

3 min readΒ·Beginner

Once your POS is set up, taking a sale is quick. You add the items the customer is buying, take payment and finish up with a receipt. Here is how to ring up a sale from start to finish.

  1. Open the POS

Open the POS for your till or location. You will see your products laid out and ready to tap.

  2. Add items to the sale

Tap each product the customer is buying to add it to the current sale. As you go, the running total updates so you can see what is owed.

  3. Adjust quantities

Change the quantity for any line, or remove an item if the customer changes their mind. Check the sale matches what is on the counter before taking payment.

  4. Take payment

Choose the payment method the customer is using, such as card or cash, and take the payment for the total.

  5. Finish the sale and give a receipt

Complete the sale. You can give the customer a receipt, and the sale is recorded so your figures and stock stay up to date.

Tip: If the customer is on your loyalty scheme, link them to the sale so they earn points as they buy. It is a simple way to encourage repeat visits.

What's next

Keep your till running smoothly by making sure it is set up correctly and by rewarding regular customers as they shop.
