How to edit a customer

3 min readΒ·Beginner

Details change over time. A customer might move premises, switch the person who handles your invoices, or ask for different payment terms. Keeping their record up to date means every new quote, job and invoice picks up the right information. Here is how to edit a customer.

  1. Open the Customers list

From the CRMit menu on the left, open Customers and select Customer List. This shows all of your existing customers.

  2. Find the customer

Use the search box or the filters to narrow the list down to the customer you want to change. You can search by business name or by other details on the record.

  3. Open their record

Select the customer to open their record. This is the same view you use to see their quotes, jobs, invoices and contacts.

  4. Edit the details

Move between the tabs to update whatever has changed:

    • Business name & address: update the business name, main contact name and the address.
    • Business contact information: add, remove or change email addresses and telephone numbers.
    • Business settings: adjust payment terms, payment method and other billing options.
  5. Update billing preferences

If the way you bill this customer has changed, update it here. Keep the Invoice To email current so invoices reach the right person, and set the Invoice CC addresses for anyone who should be copied in.

  6. Save your changes

Select Save. CRMit checks each tab for anything missing and highlights it if needed. Your changes then apply to any new quotes, jobs and invoices for this customer.

Tip: Keep the Invoice To email current so billing always reaches the right person. If invoices start bouncing, this is the first place to check.

What's next

Once the record is tidy, you can add the people you deal with and keep an eye on what the customer owes you.
