How to create a customer

4 min readΒ·Beginner

Customers are the businesses and people you sell to. Adding a customer once means their address, contact details and billing preferences are ready every time you raise a quote, job or invoice. Here is how to add one.

  1. Open the Customers list

From the CRMit menu on the left, select Customers. This opens the list of all your existing customers.

  2. Start a new customer

Click the Create Customer button. A form opens with three tabs you can move between: Business name & address, Business contact information and Business settings.

  3. Enter the business name and address

On the first tab, fill in the core details:

    • Customer business type and business name are required.
    • Add the main contact person's title, first name and last name if you have them.
    • Enter the address lines, city, county, postcode and country.
    • Add a registration number if the customer is a limited company.
  4. Add contact information

Move to the Business contact information tab and add how you reach this customer:

    • Add one or more email addresses. Use the tick boxes to mark an address as Invoice To or Invoice CC so invoices go to the right people automatically.
    • Add one or more telephone numbers.
    • Use the notes field for anything useful to remember about the account.
  5. Set the business settings

On the Business settings tab, choose how this customer is billed:

    • Set the payment terms (for example Net 30) and default payment method.
    • Pick an acquisition channel to record where the customer came from.
    • Optionally add invoice free text that appears on every invoice for this customer.
  6. Save the customer

Click Save. CRMit checks each tab for anything missing and highlights it if needed. Once saved, the customer is ready to use across quotes, jobs and invoices.

Tip: Setting the Invoice To email address now saves time later. When you send an invoice, CRMit uses it automatically so you never have to look it up.

What's next

With the customer in place you can add the individual people you deal with, then start billing them.
